Movie Review: "From Russia with Love" (2nd movie in the 007 series)

Spectre, a secret organization whose nuclear facility was destroyed by James Bond in the first film of the series, takes revenge.

A female executive of the USSR intelligence agency secretly belongs to Spectre. At her direction, a USSR intelligence officer brought out USSR's cryptanalyzer "Lector" and requested MI6's Istanbul bureau to arrange her asylum in the United Kingdom. She wants Bond as an escort. The plan is to kill Bond, en route, worsen the relationship between Britain and USSR, and take away Lector.

Sean Connery, who plays the role of Bond, has evolved from the predominant image of a handsome man in the first 007 movie while maintaining his beautiful physique, and looked more like a spy and veteran of many battles. Connery wasn't originally an actor, but was scouted for the role of Bond when he entered a bodybuilding contest. It's hard to believe that he became a movie actor by accident rather than his own will, as his acting ability has improved dramatically in a year from his first film.

Daniela Bianchi, who plays the Russian intelligence officer as the Bond girl, is a former Miss Universe Italian representative. She was also scouted for this movie because of her looks. But she spoke very little English, and in the film a British narrator dubbed her voice in English with a Russian accent.

The Istanbul branch of MI6 is located in the Grand Bazaar, a market in the old town. There is a hidden camera that extends from the pipe to the basement of the Consulate-General of Russia and looks inside. The bureau chief is a local Turk and his family also cooperates with the work.

I don't know how true it is, but since the original author Ian Fleming was a British intelligence officer, some details may be true.

The movie shows the cityscape of Istanbul and tourist attractions such as Hagia Sophia, the Orient Express where Bond and Russian intelligence officer head for England, and the relaxation scene in Venice after the fights with Specter.

Remembering holidays in Turkey and Italy, I felt as if I was traveling for a while. Another advantage of a home theater is that you can stop the video and google when some part of the storyline is difficult to understand.
