Inherently subjective preference of fantasies

While I respect people's right to pursue their own faith, to this day I have been unable to understand why so many people in the world believe in Christianity.

By all means I do not intend to pick a fight, and recognize normally one might as well avoid these kinds of subjects. I would simply like to express my own thoughts and feelings.

I have been invited to churches a few times; listened to priests' lectures; and read some portions of the Bible. I even visited Jerusalem and Bethlehem for sightseeing.

Even so, the "miracles" are just unbelievable. Change water into wine; walk across the lake; born from a virgin; revive three days after one's death; and eventually ascend to the heaven.

When I was a third grader, a member of a church was in front of the elementary school to encourage schoolchildren to visit her church and listen to a lecture. That invitation sounded intriguing, so I asked my parents if I could go. My father said "OK, but make sure to let me pick you up. Call me after the lecture."

I clearly remember the lecture was so boring that I went out before it ended. Then a classmate at high school invited me to her church. Because she was a good friend, I accepted, but again the same -- it was a total mystery why people believe in these kinds of incomprehensible stories.

Maybe first of all I don't feel comfortable with the idea of worshiping one individual (Jesus Christ) or two (plus Maria), particularly as they belong to a different race than mine.

Come to think of it, this might be contradictory to the fact that I have loved the stories of Curious George. In a sense, the picture book series and the Bible are the same in that they both are fantasies that sound untrue and human characters are Caucasians while I am an Asian.

The difference is while I did understand that a monkey would never be hospitalized in a medical center for humans, paint a picture on the wall or whatever, I thought such fantasies were so funny and loved them. Meanwhile, whether they are true or not I simply don't like the fantasies described in the Bible.

Perhaps similar to Harry Potter -- I don't understand why it is such a best-selling book series. We all know this is a fantasy. It is just that many people like it, while I am not interested.
