Romance, fine car, holiday -- and profession

I used to have some wonderful dates, a fine car and nice holidays. Now I have none, but that is OK. As far as I have great experiences, that is all that matters.

It is true that maintaining them incurs costs – good relationship requires attention and time, often meaning transportation needed to meet up, dining at a fine restaurant or sending flowers.

I used to drive a stylish BMW which I adored. It was devastating when I had to sell it before moving overseas. Ever since, I have not owned a vehicle. That has freed me from associated costs such as tax, insurance, parking, gasoline, or even CO2 I would emit a lot.

Holidays certainly end in several days. It is the memory that remains in my mind.

Instead of all these, I have a rewarding job. I renewed this conviction this weekend. I feel that all the efforts I have made over the past decades paid off. A profession is worth one’s lifetime commitment, something that gives a very special pleasure that exceeds all wonderful things that life can offer.
