米国で白人警官による黒人容疑者の殺人や暴力は過去にも繰り返されてきたが、今回のような大規模な暴動は近年では見たことがない。黒人への不当な扱いという以上に広範で根深い人種差別、法律と現実の格差が背景にあると思う。
さらには差別される側にしか分からない思いも渦巻いている。
社会の理不尽さに憤りを感じる白人も大勢いる。そんな良識ある白人の友人でも、本当の意味で有色人種が感じる差別を理解するのは難しいと思われることがあった。
良識ある白人を自認する人々の間で、下記のコメントをSNSにコピペして拡散しようという動きがある。

日本人の皆さん、どう思いましたか？
正直なところ「ああそうですか。そりゃ、よござんしたね」というのが、私の感想である。
では突如として「私は男性だから、以下の点で恵まれている」というコメントがSNSで拡散されたら、どうだろうか。
・私は毎月、下半身を引きちぎられる激痛で倒れそうになり、洋服に血がもれだしていないかとヒヤヒヤしながら、会議室を抜け出してトイレに向かう必要がない。
・展示会で職場の全員が参加する中、男だけがバーに集まり事実上の意思決定を行う会議に参加している。
「こういう問題があることを私は知っている」というアピールにはなるかもしれない。だが解決策が伴っていなければ、ただの自慢にしか聞こえない。
