Ultimate news junkie

Since I was a small child, I had been in the habit of watching Japanese public broadcaster NHK's seven o'clock evening news. For the past few years, however, I have rarely done that.

I come to feel that it is simply scratching the surface and does not provide in-depth analysis and underlying truths. I am not interested in football (soccer); sumo; and other sports. I'm tied up with dealing with my own life and cannot afford to follow others. Scanning headlines of Yahoo and NIKKEI is enough for general news.

I do follow press articles in my professional field and summarize what happened each week. That reveals interesting mid to long-term trends, and implications they might have for the region and world.

To collect rumors about countries where the press are heavily censored, online bulletin boards in free countries are quite useful.

Probably the all-time best media is still books, I think. When I was investigating a certain topic, I thought I might want to check all the books written on it and went to the National Diet Library the other day. I found a book written by a legitimate expert revealing surprising facts which are never told in the other types of media. That was déjà vu when I read books on other topics as well.
